CROSSVILLE —
Physical education teachers at Crab Orchard and Stone Elementary have initiated the “Fishing in the Schools Program.” These two schools also participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program and conduct classes in other outdoor activities, such as orienteering. With activities such as these, students are becoming familiar with the outdoors and learning skills that they can enjoy as adults.
Sponsored by the National Fishing in the Schools Program and the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, these two schools were able to purchase the program and equipment needed to teach their students the art of fly fishing. Students are provided the opportunity to learn to fish and hopefully gain an appreciation for the sport.
These two educators believe that activities such as this are beneficial to the students overall well being and teaches them to appreciate the outdoors in which they live.
