Tennessee Tech trombones in concert Feb. 22

CROSSVILLE — The trombone studio at Tennessee Tech University will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in Wattenbarger Auditorium.

The concert, Pops Night for Trombone, will feature TTU trombone students performing various solos with accompaniment by TTU pianist Paul Thurmond. The solos will be in the tradition of Arthur Pryor, former soloist with the John Philip Sousa band, and will feature works by Herbert L. Clarke and modern pieces by Pierre Gabaye and TTU composition and theory professor Greg Danner.

“Performing this repertoire will be a great opportunity for our students to show off their instruments and their passion for music,” said Joshua Hauser, TTU trombone professor. “Since the trombone is a relatively young solo instrument, compared to the violin or piano, we have the responsibility as performers to showcase them through this wonderful early and mid-20th century repertoire.”

“Part of our musical mission is to provide a unique program that concertgoers will not hear anywhere else.”

Wattenbarger Auditorium is in the Bryan Fine Arts Building, 1150 N. Dixie Ave., on TTU’s campus.
