CCHS Jet Theatrix Drama Club is pleased to present their Spring 2012 production, "Beware the Jabberwock," by Ron Nicol. The public performances will be at the Palace Theatre on Thursday, March 29, at 7 p.m., Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. General admission will be $5. There are also two discounted school matinees on March 30 at 9 a.m. and noon by reservation only. Reservations for school matinees are available by contacting drama director, Angela Robbins, at CCHS. Tickets to all public performances will be available at the door.
A bit about the show:
Emma and Lucy are lost in Tulgey Wood, a mysterious forest full of weird and wonderful creatures. Trying to find their way home, they encounter boisterous Toves and anxious Raths, receive a warning from the refined and snobbish Borogroves about the deadly Jubjub Bird, and are stalked by the frumious Bandersnatch. Joined by intrepid but hapless knight Percy, they come face to face with the awesome Jabberwock - and then Lucy is bandersnatched! Eventually the Jabberwocks terrible secret is revealed, and the children find out what ‘frumious’ really means.
Suggested by the poem “Jabberwocky”, the play is set in the fantasy world of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’ stories. Shortlisted in Scottish and Welsh playwriting competitions, one judge commented “it has the same delightfully confusing dialogue of Carroll’s work and brings back fond memories of reading these stories as a child. Wonderfully cryptic nonsensical moments as well as moments of philosophical clarity made me smile and wonder. This play will go down a treat with children and adults alike.”“Full of nonsensical language, confusion and bewilderment the play is a delight from start to finish...many authors of family plays will put in something for the adults alongside the action that is primarily aimed at children. Ron Nicol has created a piece that will have adults and children laughing along to the same thing, and family entertainment doesn't get much better than that.” - Amateur Stage
This production of Beware the Jabberwock is appropriate for pre-k through adult. There is truly something for everyone. The colorful sets, costumes, and characters will delight young audiences, and the clever dialogue will be impress the more mature and discerning audience members. The show is approximately an hour long and is perfect family-friendly entertainment for even the shortest of attention spans. This one is not to be missed!

Summer Food Service Program announces locations
The Cumberland County School Nutrition Program announces its sponsorship of the 2013 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which is administered in Tennessee by the Department of Human Services under an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture USDA). Meals will be provided to all children without charge.

Envirothon teams compete
The Hull-York Lakeland Resource Conservation & Development Council (RC&D) recently held its 21st Annual Regional Envirothon at the Hyder-Burks Agricultural Pavilion in Cookeville. A total of 22 teams from the council’s 14 Upper Cumberland counties participated in this year’s contest. The Envirothon is an Environmental Education contest for high school students where the students work together as a team.

Students honored by Kids on the Rise
Kids on the Rise (KOTR) held their first student recognition luncheon recently to honor all of the students in the KOTR program. In addition, two scholarship awards were passed out to students who have completed high school and been a part of the KOTR program for at least four years. The luncheon was held at the Art Circle Public Library through a grant from Volunteer Energy Cooperative’s VECustomers Share program. KOTR gratefully acknowledges VEC’s warm support.
