COCCO takes top award in Dollywood competition

This past summer the Children of Crossville Chamber Orchestra (COCCO) competed in Dollywood in the Music in the Parks Festival. Students from eight different states participated, including Tennessee, Missouri, Georgia, Indiana, Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama and North Carolina.

COCCO took first place in their class (string orchestra) and category (instrumental). This is the first time COCCO has taken first place in the instrumental category, which included concert and jazz bands.

Their director, Becky Bull, who was delighted, commented, "I've had an exceptional group of students this year. They've been awesome! One of the pieces we competed with this year was an original work written by the principal cellist, Whitney Stevens."

Anyone wishing more information on the orchestra can

contact Bull at 707-0656. COCCO's first concert of

the 2009-'10 season is scheduled for Dec.11, at the Palace Theatre.
