Cow patty drop big success for Junior Achievement

CROSSVILLE — The Youth Achievement Foundation (YAF) held their first Cow Patty Drop on Oct. 5 at the CCHS vs. SMHS football game. The fundraising was held to benefit Junior Achievement programming in the schools. The lucky winner of the $1,500 prize was Dean Headrick.

Big thanks go to all who supported the event by donating and to Scott Maddox, principal at SMHS, for hosting the event. The funds raised will be applied to classroom programs and will help offset the roughly $200 cost per classroom. The money raised will directly benefit students participating in Junior Achievement.

For the 2012-2013 school year YAF has an ambitious plan to offer programs in all nine elementary schools, Cumberland County High School, and Stone Memorial High School.

Over 800 students will participate in the classroom programs that empower young people to own their economic success. The volunteer-delivered, K-12 programs foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and use experiential learning to inspire kids to dream big and reach their potential. They also plan on bringing over 300 fifth-graders to BizTown in Clinton where the students will run the simulated community.

The Youth Achievement Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to promote JA in the Cumberland County school system. If you would like to donate or volunteer contact the Youth Achievement Foundation’s Colleen Widemon at 931-484-9958. For more information go to http://cumberlandcountyyaf.wix.com/yaf.
