CROSSVILLE —
On Nov. 1, a holiday tradition returns to the Playhouse for the 15th consecutive year! A Sanders Family Christmas — the sequel to the wildly popular Smoke on the Mountain — is filled with faith, family and good old-fashioned fun… and it’s all set to some of the sweetest bluegrass and gospel sounds this side of heaven.
It’s Christmas Eve, 1941, and the always unpredictable Sanders Family gathers at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for one last holiday sing before son Dennis ships out for boot camp. This year’s production will once again star Playhouse favorites Jason Ross and Patty Payne as Mervin and June, along with co-director Daniel Black as Burl, co-director/music director Lauren Marshall as Vera and Emily Woods as Denise. Joining the Sanders family for the first time will be newcomers Douglas Waterbury-Tieman as Dennis and John Dobbratz as everyone’s favorite reformed ne’er-do-well, Uncle Stanley.
You won’t want to miss your chance to celebrate the holidays with this heavenly evening of music, laughter and a romantic surprise! A Sanders Family Christmas is rated G, sponsored by Stonehaus Winery and runs through December 22 in the Adventure Theater.
Currently running at the Playhouse is Big River, (rated G, sponsored by TAP Publishing), on the Mainstage through November 9. Upcoming events: Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (rated G, sponsored by M. Stewart Galloway, MD, Cumberland Eye Center) opens on November 16; Mandy Barnett will kick off her Winter Wonderland Concert Tour (sponsored by Mitchell Drug Company) at the Playhouse on November 23 at 8 p.m.; and Mike Stone performs a special benefit concert on November 29 at 7 p.m.
Tickets and information are also available for the Cookeville Children’s Theater production of Annie, Southern Stars Symphonic Brass Band, and other events. All CCP productions are made possible through sponsor support, with additional support provided by the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
