Teen cabaret features CCP student performers

CROSSVILLE — On Dec. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m., the Cumberland County Playhouse will present an all-new teen cabaret, Facing the Future. Directed and choreographed by Derek Wagner and co-directed by Cory Clark, the show will feature 33 cast members, all students in the Playhouse’s Performance Education program. These talented teens are in grades 8 to 12 and are between the ages of 13 and 18. Material for this new cabaret was chosen by some of the performers themselves, and then developed with the help of co-creators Derek Wagner, Cory Clark and Isaiah Banegas. It features “Seize the Day” from Newsies, “What is This Feeling” from Wicked, and “Daddy’s Son” from Ragtime, along with dances set to “Turn up the Music” by Chris Brown, “Take it Away” by Karmin, and “This Moment” by Nic Chagall.

“These young performers have such talent and such amazing creativity,” said Education Director Weslie Webster, “and Facing the Future is a perfect opportunity for them to express their individual artistic voices. I’m so proud of all of them.”

Also at the Playhouse are Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (rated G, sponsored by M. Stewart Galloway, MD/Cumberland Eye Care) through Dec. 23, and A Sanders Family Christmas (rated G, sponsored by Stonehaus Winery) through Dec. 22. Tickets and information are also available for Southern Stars Symphonic Brass Band and our 2013 season by calling 484-5000.

All CCP productions are made possible through sponsor support, with additional support provided by the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
