My fingers are stumbling and stammering over the keyboard trying to describe the incredible performance of “Scores of Books” at the Palace Theatre recently. There are a million thoughts but only one single word comes to mind to describe how the written word came alive on that stage — “Magical”!
Marian Sullivan’s talents do not just lie with playing the piano, though she does do that magnificently. She has a way with people. She brings out the hidden talents in everyone she works with. Tonight showed how she brought out the very best in the combined church choirs of St. Alphonsus, the First Congregational Church and the Homestead Baptist Church and the adorable, well-costumed children’s choir. How precious they were yet so very disciplined in their performances.
Tears of joy crept down my cheeks from remembering as a child the story hours at school and the library when only my imagination made books come alive. Tonight Marian Sullivan along with the choir, Patty Payne, Karen Vaden, the children and all those behind the scenes made the books come alive, on stage in full view at the Palace Theatre in downtown Crossville! How I wish those “books” never ended. If you weren’t there, you missed the best magical evening you could ever have wished to have. Plus, everyone there knew they were helping a worthy cause, The Art Circle Public Library Foundation. Next year when you see that Marian Sullivan and Company is putting on another concert, run, run, run to get your tickets. You will not regret it.
