CROSSVILLE — Tickle your funny bone at storytelling festival

The Performing Arts Alliance of Rural Tennessee (PAART) proudly presents the fourth annual Cumberland Mountain Storytelling Festival Friday and Saturday at the Palace Theatre at 72 S. The Friday matinee, at noon, will be hosted by well-known humorist Sam Venable of the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

Friday evening, Susie Randelman of the Art Circle Public Library and her duck Quackers opens the 7 p.m. show. Venable returns as MC, and Edu-tellers Betty and Mike Roe will spin some local tales.

Saturday evening begins at 6 p.m. with the Cumberland Mountain Storytelling Guild then Sheila Kay Adams takes the stage at 7 p.m. with her five-string banjo and down-home humor.

Artists show their work

PCAC’s Fall Awards Show opens with reception Oct. 12

Just as a colorful outdoor environment is the hallmark of the fall season, the colorful Fall Awards Show is a seasonal hallmark at the Plateau Creative Arts Center (PCAC). At the Fall Awards Show, both residents and visitors will enjoy viewing some of the finest artwork that the members of the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade have to offer. There will be original entries in multiple categories including watercolor and acrylic under glass, oil and acrylic not under glass, mixed media, pastel, colored pencil drawing, black and white drawing, photography, three-dimensional artwork and jewelry.

To celebrate the Fall Awards Show, the public is invited to the opening reception held at the PCAC Friday, Oct. 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

In addition to the awards chosen by Elwood, there will be a People’s Choice award. Viewers can choose their favorite entry at any time from the show’s opening Friday, Oct. 12, through Sunday, Oct. 14.

Celebrate Oktoberfest

The Crossville Knights of Columbus are preparing for Oktoberfest 2012 high atop the Cumberland Plateau. Reserve the dates of Oct. 12 and 13 for your dining, dancing and listening pleasure at The Knights of Columbus Activity Park, 2892 Hwy. 70 East in Crossville (Exit 322 off I-40, south to Hwy 70, then 1/3 mile east).

The festivities will kick off with the traditional tapping of the keg at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12. Tapping the keg will be this year’s honorary lady mayor, Ronni Chase, and honorary lord mayor, Panama Jack, of the 102.5 WOW Country Morning Moo Crew. Continuous music will then run immediately after the keg tapping through 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 13, another day of fun, food, music and excitement will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 9:30 p.m.
