Energy Efficiency Fair
Keep more cash in your pocket this winter by making your home more energy efficient. The Cumberland Healthy Energy Campaign is offering the fair today, Friday, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Art Circle Public Library. There will be door prizes and presentations from energy efficient service providers. Also, learn about a free home energy audit available through Volunteer Energy Cooperative.
Jenna and Her Cool Friends
Come take a journey through several decades of great blues. PAART will be bringing Jenna and Her Cool Friends back to the Palace Theatre on Friday, Oct. 5. The performance starts at 7 p.m. central time at the beautiful, historic Palace Theatre on Main Street in Crossville. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students and can be purchased by calling the Palace Theatre at 484-6133 or online at www.palacetheatre-crossville.com. PAART (Performing Arts Alliance of Rural Tennessee) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to bringing talented performing artists to our community.
Demolition Derby
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will present a demolition derby Saturday at the Cumberland County Community Complex. Gates open at 4 p.m. for driver registration and the vent begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for those age 6 and older. Driver's may register for $25 per class. Proceeds benefit CASA, which serves as advocates for children in the court system.
Special Olympics
Move over, London. They may not have the queen arrive in a helicopter with James Bond, but there will be more than enough spectacle as the Cumberland County Special Olympic athletes descend on Stone Memorial High School Sunday, Oct. 7. The games will honor the Olympic tradition with an opening ceremony and Parade of Athletes. Athletes should plan to check in between 2 and 2:30 p.m. Following check-in, athletes will be directed to the Parade of Athletes assembly location. All athletes will parade into the stadium as the opening ceremony unfolds at 3 p.m. Volunteers who want to be huggers or field helpers should also sign in and receive assignments between 2 and 2:30 p.m. Volunteers do not need to pre-register — simply show up. The only requirement is that huggers and field helpers be at least 14 years of age.

Granville Quilt Festival set Saturday
The 12th annual Granville Quilt Festival will be Oct. 6, at the Granville United Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s show has been greatly expanded with 17 classes of competition in quilting with a first, second and third play award in each plus a Best of Show award. Granville Fall Celebration on Oct. 6 will also feature Jazz on the Cumberland, Cumberland River Cruises, Ralph Maddux Memorial Motorcycle Show, World War II maneuvers re-enactment, Civil War living history demonstrations, storytelling festival, meet the authors, arts festival, craftsmen’s festival at Sutton Homestead Pioneer Village, music of all types at Pruett Stage and more.

Allardt pumpkin weigh-off hopes for record
Anticipation is building for the 21st annual Allardt Great Pumpkin Festival and Weigh-off set for Saturday, Oct. 6. A variety of musical acts will perform on stage at city hall featuring new faces as well as well-known favorites, beginning at 12:30 until the 3 p.m. parade. Entertainment will resume following the parade at about 4 p.m. Hillis and Binkley, two teens from Van Buren County, will be the grand finale musical act, performing about 5 p.m. Fireworks always top off the event at dark about 7 p.m.
