Tennessee Civil War Trails marker to be dedicated Oct. 3

The Sgt. William A. Hamby SCV Camp #1750 will dedicate a Tennessee Civil War Trails marker Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. in Pleasant Hill at Pioneer Hall Museum.

The marker, paid for by the SCV, will commemorate the only official hostile action of the Civil War to occur in Cumberland County between regular army units when elements of the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry clashed in the night by a detachment of the 25th Tennessee and Champ Ferguson's command.

All are welcome to attend this event that will shed light on some of Cumberland County's forgotten Civil War history and to visit Pioneer Hall Museum, which houses many interesting artifacts from Cumberland County's past. Docents will be giving tours and Confederate reenactors will be on site to answer questions and dedicate the marker.

The Tennessee Civil War Trails program is an exiting new venture for Tennessee Tourism. Partnered with Virginia Civil War Trails, the Tennessee Civil War Trails program will soon be producing a map that will allow the history enthusiast to travel to and explore Tennessee's Civil War history, from the large battles to the smaller events that form the story of this state during its darkest hour.
