Man's best friend survives home fire

The interior to this house at 51 School St. was heavily damaged in a fire around 9 a.m. Monday. According to Assistant Fire Chief Chris South, electricity to the residence had been turned on earlier in the morning. When the power came on, the stove came on, igniting items sitting on the stove, resulting in damage to the interior. Crossville firefighter Rodgers Spencer holds the owner's dog, which was rescued by another fireman. The dog suffered smoke inhalation and was taken by Animal Control Officer Larry Hamilton to Best Friends Veterinary Hospital for treatment.
